UPDATE

Parents,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend!

IMPORTANT DATES:
There are 22 days left of school. Summer is just around the corner. This year has gone by so fast. I know that everyone is ready for summer break.

Wednesday (5/4) is an early release day. Kona Ice will be here after school.

STAAR testing next week. We will take the Math STAAR on Monday and Reading on Tuesday. We have been working on test taking strategies and lots of review. We are ready! Don't forget that the campus will be closed during testing.

Field Day is May 20th. I hope we have beautiful weather for the event.

INFORMATION:

20 Book Challenge - We will have our monthly challenge lunch on Thursday. I am so proud of the students that have been participating and working hard.If your child participated in the monthly challenge, they will receive their invitation by Wednesday.
We are going to have an end of the year celebration with all the participants. We will have some special guests visit our school to help us with the celebration.

Mindfulness - We are working with a few other classes from our school and some researchers from University of Texas at Austin to try bringing mindfulness into the classroom. We will use a program called Smiling Mind (smilingmind.com.au) and will listen to a short mindfulness audio each day. We will discuss our thinking and reactions to the sessions. We will added an active learning activity such as spelling freeze tag, spelling relay, etc... and then do the mindfulness session after the physically active game. We will give feedback to the researchers about the effectiveness of mindfulness in the classroom especially paired with physical activity. They will used our feedback to write a NIH grant. You can try mindfulness at home using this free program. Go to smilingmind.com.au and sign up. The program is from Australia and the accent adds to the fun of the sessions. :) Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Flip Flop Drive for Honduras-The Service Club is collecting flip flops for Friends of Los Ninos. This organization, along with Mrs. Shogan, will take our donated flip flops to Honduras and give them to children in Copprome Orphanage and to the people in the villages. This is our third year collecting flip flops and our goal is 300 pairs of flip flops. All sizes and styles are needed. Put the flip flops in the box by the office until May 23. Thank you so much for your support.

Conferences - We will start Spring Conferences soon. Be on the look out for the sign up. Coming soon!

Please make sure that either you or your student are checking grade on Home Access. I want to give everyone the opportunity to make corrections or redo an assignment.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Pinter
